I have been busy working to cross items off the to-do list before our little one arrives and becomes the focus of our attention.
One of the things on the list was to find a storage solution – other than a shoebox in the closet - for all the lovely notes and cards we received for our engagement and wedding.
I decided to put the cards in a scrapbook so that we can easily pick up the book and flip through it whenever we like. As I began to paste the cards on the pages, I realized that there was room for more than just cards so I added some photos and keepsakes from our wedding.
While it’s pretty clear that I’m no scrapbooker, I am happy with the end result.
The best wedding ever did have a couple of hiccups; a temporarily lost camera, seating snafu and a little too much bubbly for one petite bridesmaid. Our Friday welcome party was supposed to include a slideshow documenting the lives of the bride and groom but it didn’t happen because of technical difficulties. As is usually the case, as soon as most guests left, the technology magically began working! Some folks got a chance to see it on the big screen and others got a chance to see it on a laptop at the wedding. If you didn’t get a chance to see it, click on the link below.
“This is a love note. A celebration of Alyssa and Andrew’s love for each other, and of the community of friends and family they’ve built around them.
Thank you for asking me to do this, guys. It was an honour.”

I’m not usually one to suggest that you look at photos from my awkward youth but Jen did such a stellar job on this slideshow that you have to watch it. She has matched pictures to lyrics and did an amazing job of telling the story of Andrew and Alyssa became the A-Team.

Tired of wedding posts yet? We’re almost done – promise! But I’d be remiss if I didn’t post about the three beautiful women – Janet, Jen and Haley – who stood up with me when I married Andrew.
These women showered me with so much love and affection in the months leading up to the wedding. They were there for me at every turn whether it was to lend a hand baking cookies, proofreading our invitation text or listening to me hem and haw over some minor decision. Most importantly, these women support and love me everyday as sisters, confidantes, travel companions, and role models.
Alyssa and I love living in Vancouver. It is our home. The only problem is that it is so far away from our families in Ontario and Saskatchewan. It was wonderful to spend so much time with them at our wedding. We look forward to their next visit.

Trousseau – trous·seau, n. [French, from Old French, diminutive of trousse, bundle. ] The possessions, such as clothing and linens, that a bride assembles for her marriage.
As a modern girl, the idea of a trousseau didn’t cross my mind as I prepared for our wedding. What could a couple of 30-somethings who already shared a home possibly need as they embarked on married life? The answer is simple – books.
Our friends and family surprised us with a literary trousseau. They made trips to their favourite bookstores, ordered titles online and took books from their own bookshelves to give to us. Many of them wrote inscriptions about why the book was important to them and why they wanted to share it with us. We got kids’ books, plays, self-help books, fiction, autobiographies, inaugural addresses, non-fiction and cookbooks. Truly one of the most amazing gifts I’ve ever received.

There were four guys who helped make our wedding really special, my wedding party and our emcee Ross. It was really great to hang out with them the night before the wedding and grab brunch with them to kick-start the wedding day. For some it was their first visit to Vancouver and we are looking forward to many more.
I was so honoured that they were part of our wedding.
My Best Man Rick. He gave a great speech that talked about our mutual love for the Cosby Show.

My brother Graeme and I. He made his first trip to Vancouver for the wedding. We are looking forward to his next visit with Tasha, Braeden and Hannah.

Our emcee Ross. He did a fantastic job at our wedding.

Groomsman Don. I think you’ll agree that he is model material with this Zoolander pose.

A few pictures of us all together.

During the pre-wedding photo shoot we were asked to make all kinds of expressions. Smile. Don’t smile. Look off in the distance. Be serious. After looking through all our photos it’s clear we don’t do the serious face very well. Here are some of our favourite pictures of ourselves on our wedding day…with smiles on our faces.

We chose to have a small(er) wedding because it was important to us that the day be very personal and inclusive. Our friends and family members are a talented bunch and we took great pleasure in having them apply their skills and passions to make our day extra-special.
Toronto arts and crafter Holly created a personalized wedding certificate that every guest signed.

Brita sewed a string of festive bunting that was hung throughout the venue.

Sheridan and Drew serenaded us and our guests.

Janet made us look flawless with her comestic wizardry.

Ryan and Ian took our decor ideas and implemented them beautifully.

Thank you friends and family!
I am a detail-person, no question about it. I love the small things; the way the books are piled on the nightstand, a magazine clipping tacked to a bulletin board, choosing the right mug for my morning coffee.
So it came as no surprise then when I found myself wrapped up in the details of our wedding. The little things probably didn’t mean a lot to other people but they were important to me. Here are some of the projects that kept me busy in the months preceding the wedding.
